David M. Hurwitz began Wasting the Dawn in 1993 as a way to stave off brain death while working in a t-shirt printing factory in Illinois.
He returned to California later that year with two thirds of novel in an old assorted teas box. As a way to get him to finish the manuscript, a few friends offered to help publish it as a series of chapbook zines (see below). The publication soon took on a life of its own, mysteriously migrating from San Diego coffee house free racks to the shelves of Tower Records in L.A. and even as far away as Luneborg, Germany.
These days, David lives in San Diego with his wife Becky,
who is a librarian, and thier two sons. You can find him teaching English Composition
at a local community college, eating sushi, or roaming the Earth with his boys.
His hobbies include collecting Zippo lighters with cats on them and reading
Victorian era adventure novels. Wasting the Dawn is his
first book.
